The Hawk Haven story begins back in 1940 when Johan Felix Wuerker traveled from Germany to Cape May, New Jersey and purchased the land that would one day become a vineyard and winery. Three generations later the farmland was still in the family and it became Todd Wuerker’s turn to choose something to plant. The youngest of three sons, Todd and his older brother planted the first grape vines, Cabernet Sauvignon in 1997. Todd and his wife Kenna began their work to open the winery in August of 2006 and established Hawk Haven Vineyard by May 2008, opening the tasting room just one year later. Their first vintage was in 2007, and today they have sixteen acres of land under vine with about as many different varietals. All of the grapes are harvested, pressed, fermented, aged, blended, and bottled on site. The Hawk Haven wine label was created by a team of artists and is designed not only to represent the winery’s namesake but also the yin and yang of Todd and Kenna’s relationship.
At Beneduce Vineyards, our approach is simple – do everything necessary to bring out the best in each individual batch of fruit. Our small lot production gives us the opportunity to hone in on the differences in each variety or blend, allowing us to create unique wines with distinct personalities that reflect both their vineyard source and our winemaker’s own style.
The winery itself is outfitted with some of the best equipment available to the industry, which allows for a more gentle processing of the fruit and a focus on quality over quantity. We offer a range of wine styles to suit every palate, though our main concentration is on aromatically intense, food friendly wines.
Unionville Vineyards in bucolic Hunterdon County rests on 89 acres of preserved farmland. The winery and vineyard is comprised of 5 estate vineyards spread over three counties, allowing for unique, expressive wines to be crafted from fruit grown in the varying terroir of central and northern New Jersey. Winemakers Zeke Johnsen and Conor Quilty craft acid-driven, fruit-forward, aromatic wines, focusing on Burgundy and Rhone varieties such as Chardonnay, Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Viognier. The finest expression of the land and style of Unionville is its single vineyard series, a collection of wines developed from grapes grown in small lots on specific parcels of the Unionville Vineyards properties.
Working Dog's story starts early in 2001 with a group of friends relaxing after work one day. The conversation landed upon an idea . . . "wouldn't it be great if we could plant some grapes and try making our own wine?" Before they knew it, these friends were digging holes and planting vinifera, on what is now Working Dog's vineyard.
The vineyard is located in the rolling terrain of eastern Mercer County. They started with 3 acres of Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. They came to learn that their combination of soil, climate, topography . . . is capable of producing outstanding fruit. The idea about making their own wines has taken on a life of its own, quickly changing from hobby to passion to obsession. Somewhere along the line, it became a business.
Heritage Vineyards is a family owned and operated estate vineyard and winery located in Mullica Hill, New Jersey. Mullica Hill is located in the heart of the Outer Coastal Plain American Viticultural Area. Named New Jersey’s “Winery of the Year” in 2011, 2014, and 2015 by the Garden State Wine Growers Association, Heritage has begun cementing it’s self as a benchmark producer in New Jersey.
Cultivation of grapes began when Heritage Vineyards was established in 1999 by Bill and Penni Heritage. Seeing the potential of the emerging wine industry in Southern New Jersey, Bill, with the help of his wife Penni, started converting their 150 acre estate of peach & apple orchards into vineyards. The Heritages represent the fifth generation of farmers who have tended this land. Great care is given to the vineyards and the grape growing effort because the key to making great wine is to grow the best quality grapes.
